Accurate Camera Calibration for Off-line, Video-Based Augmented Reality

چکیده
Camera tracking is a fundamental requirement for videobased Augmented Reality applications. The ability to accurately calculate the intrinsic and extrinsic camera parameters for each frame of a video sequence is essential if synthetic objects are to be integrated into the image data in a believable way. In this paper, we present an accurate and reliable approach to camera calibration for off-line videobased Augmented Reality applications. We first describe an improved feature tracking algorithm, based on the widely used Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi tracker. Estimates of inter-frame camera motion are used to guide tracking, greatly reducing the number of incorrectly tracked features. We then present a robust hierarchical scheme that merges sub-sequences together to form a complete projective reconstruction. Finally, we describe how RANSACbased random sampling can be applied to the problem of self-calibration, allowing for more reliable upgrades to metric geometry. Results of applying our calibration algorithms are given for both synthetic and real data.

Hong Hua Chunyu Gao Abstract — Augmented reality (AR) is a technology in which computer-generated virtual images are dynamically superimposed upon a real-world scene to enhance a user’s perceptions of the physical environment. A successful AR system requires that the overlaid digital information be aligned with the user’s real-world senses – a process known as registration. An accurate registra...

In this paper, we propose a new recursive framework for camera resectioning and apply it to off-line video-based augmented reality. Our algorithm is based on an unscented particle filter, which deals with non-linear dynamic systems without local linearization, and leads to more accurate results than other non-linear filters. The proposed approach has some desirable properties. It does not rely ...

The proposed method has some des...
متن کاملCamera Matchmoving in Unprepared, Unknown Environments
Camera matchmoving is an application involving synthesis of real scenes and artificial objects, in which the goal is to insert computer-generated graphical 3D objects into liveaction footage depicting unmodeled, arbitrary scenes. Graphical objects should be inserted in a way so that they appear to move as if they were a part of the real scene. Seamless, convincing insertion of graphical objects...
متن کاملCalibration-Free Augmented Reality in Perspective
ÐThis paper deals with video-based augmented reality and proposes an algorithm for augmenting a real video sequence with views of graphics objects without metric calibration of the video camera by representing the motion of the video camera in projective space. A virtual camera, by which views of graphics objects are generated, is attached to a real camera by specifying image locations of the w...
